Although distance running is an individual sport most runners will tell you that the community of runners is largely community driven. During races you’ll receive endless woots and cheers from spectators but you’ll receive just as many from the other runners in the race. Several training organizations have sprung up that allow the community of runners to collectively raise funds for needy organizations/causes such as Team in Training and Aids Project Los Angeles.
Another organization that I’ve become particularly fond of is RunningMoms.org. The organization was created by and is run by 5 moms who raise families and still manage to fit running into their busy lives. You can read more about the founding mothers here. The vision is simple, relevant and highly valuable: provide information to other mothers who live a busy life with work/raising their families but still want time to maintain an active lifestyle as a runner.
I really appreciate the niche communities that spring up in the running world like RunningMoms. They help address particular needs and give specialized information to others that share a same circumstance or condition as they do.
If you are a mom and looking to remain active then definitely check out their site. You can register here to participate in the community. Otherwise you can casually browse the site for lots of useful running information.
Thanks for your contribution to the running community RunningMoms.org!
