Listening to spectators cheer you on during a race can be pretty entertaining. I always get a chuckle out of the “Way to go! You’re almost there!” comments at mile 15 of a marathon. The signs that spectators bring can be flat out hilarious. Below is a list of some of the more entertaining signs that have been spotted on the race trail:
How about these words of encouragement:

And this is one of my all time favorites:

Something tells me this kid did not think up this sign all by himself:

Personally, I always thought someone should make a marathon sign in the spirit of lolcats. This is a little creation I just drafted up:

I’ve also heard about some of the below signs but unfortunately don’t have any pictures to support them:
“Don’t walk…. your friends are watching!”
“You can do it! Just don’t die” That one is sadly prophetic for a few runners each year so avoid bringing that one to a race.
“We are proud of you! Oh, and take a dump in your pants if you need to!” Yeah, that was an actual sign. Seems more fitting for ultra marathoners but still worth a good chuckle if you saw that at any race.
Have you seen any funny signs during your races? If so please share!

How about: “Take it easy, someone behind you just croaked.”
@Joseph: hahah ouch… that’s harsh!
Saw these at the Rock & Roll San Antonio races…
“Run Run”
“Sweat is your fat cells crying”
“Free Beer” and yes, they had free beer and yes some runners were drinking it!
“Run Today, Recover Tomorrow”
