Hey, i used to suffer from agonisingly sore shins when i ran, i run 7 miles almost every day but started to get a sharp pain around my shins and calves. I asked my doctor, my friend who is a physio and both came up with the same ideas about it being my shoes, my weight, how i was landing on my feet but after months of trying their ideas i found i was still getting alot of pain. But, one day i was talking with my brother about it, and he suggested it could be the length of my stride because i have long legs but i'm only 5'10, so i decided to shorten my stride and it worked. I can;t guarantee it will work for you, but if you do decide to try it, beware it's more tiring if you#re used to longer strides but worth it. Hope this helps!

Request contact info for mica true regarding a testimonial for Coach Joe Vigil,
often intruduced as the "greatest distance running coach in the world.

Coach Vigil,as well as Mica, is featured in McDougal's book "Born to Run."

This is a very helpful article. Thank you indeed! I started jogging 5 weeks ago with the main intention of getting my beer belly reduced and get in shape, with a side goal of completing a 10k run in a month's time. I feel great running and being out of breath but the only thing that's hampering my training routine is the pain I feel on both my shins. I started researching what it is today and found out about shin splints. After reading the article, I realised a couple of things that may be contributing to my shin splints, 1) Old shoes over 2 years old 2) Running on concrete pavement 3) No ice pack treatment, though the pain goes away once I stop running. I don't know if I should apply an ice pack even in this case.

This is also the first time that I'm coming across something called "Heel striking". All this time I have been landing on my heels, thinking that it is the correct method, but obviously I have to do some research on proper jogging techniques. Once again, great article and thanks a million!

I've been running for a while and have been fine up until recently. I am a college student so during Christmas break I didn't run at all, my mistake. Now after going back my shines have hurt so much at first I figured it was from not running enough but the more I run the worse it gets and I'm not willing to give up running yet, nor can I because I play rugby.

I get bumped into, usually in turns, by head phone wearers every race because they just can't hear me. I dont mind. I have learned to make note if someone running near me is wearing headphones and I will gently touch them on the arm or shoulder to let them know I am near. Many times during a race you end up running with a pack that has the same basic capabilities as yourself and when they are not wearing headphones you support each other with a little bit of chatter...I enjoy that more than any playlist.
During training and fun runs I found that ear buds sometimes bother me, they dont stay in, they irritate my ears, or the wires bother me, the playlist is stale, I need to charge it or I need batteries, there is a short in the wire, a dog attacked me and I never heard it, a car almost hit me, a bike rider scared the heck out of me...I changed to a simpler approach unplugged..put on my shorts and shoes and go run.

I put a section of old sock cut into a short tube around my forearm. It gives me a soft, convenient place to wipe off the rocket residue without smearing snot all over my jacket sleeve.

I run not because I enjoy running, but I want to be the fastest among my peers. I know it seems so shallow and ridiculous but everybody has different reasons. I just wish I didn't have to do it for others.
